About OnWard Education
OnWard Education is a Dublin-based medical education technology company founded in 2024 by Dr. Jake Robinson, a practicing clinician and graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. We build an AI-scored case presentation app for medical students on clinical placement and an Educator Portal that gives medical schools real-time visibility of cohort performance.
Why OnWard exists
Meaningful feedback on a case presentation depends on a doctor being free to listen, and on a busy ward that is often not possible. Many students finish a placement without ever hearing how they actually present.
We think every student should be able to practice independently without giving up the quality of the feedback they receive.
“The idea for OnWard began during my own time as a medical student. While preparing for clinical examinations, I kept meeting the same problem: I could practise presenting cases, but getting structured feedback depended on having a doctor available to listen. In busy clinical environments, that simply was not always possible.
The project formally began while I was completing my intern year in the HSE, when we started building the technology and clinical content that became the first version of OnWard.”

Where we are today
OnWard has received support and funding from Enterprise Ireland and the Local Enterprise Office (LEO Fingal) and works alongside the Learnovate Centre at Trinity College Dublin to develop and validate the platform. The Irish Times featured OnWard's launch in June 2026.
We are now launching the next stage of OnWard with the principle that started it: medical students should be able to take ownership of their learning without compromising on the quality of the feedback they receive.
